A major event in the Wyoming Heritage Weekend in Thermopolis is the Cowboy Music Gathering. It will run on Friday, September 1st and Saturday, September 2nd.
The Cowboy Music Gathering will be held in conjunction with the Cowboy Poetry contest. There will be two stages on both days—one for poetry and the other for music. It is intended that they will be close enough so that a participant, or an attendee, will be able to move freely from one to the other.
Each artist will be allocated 30 minutes to showcase his or her talent and those who, in the opinion of the sponsors, have demonstrated exceptional talent will be asked to participate in the Friday evening concert. There will not be a ‘headliner’ for the Friday concert. Instead, it will be populated by both poets and musicians that have shown, in the minds of the sponsors, considerable talent.
If you would like to be added to the growing roster of those who wish to be with us, please let the management know.
The weekend is being sponsored by the Wyoming Chapter of Keeping the West Western in cooperation with the Thermopolis/Hot Springs county Chamber of Commerce. They can be reached at 307-864-3192, or you can contact Cowboy Music Foreman Roger Dowdell at 307-864-4036.
There will be some small amounts of money available to help entertainers with their expenses. In addition, some in-kind assistance may be available. This takes the usual form of meals and get-a-way gasoline. If you need assistance don’t hesitate to say so. We’ll try to work something out that will benefit both the gathering and the individual entertainers.
Saturday night’s concert will feature selected entertainers. Opening the concert will be the winners of the various poetry classes and the naming of the ‘Wyoming Cowboy Poetry Lariat for 2008.’
